Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-05-17
This Privacy Policy describes how Strangr ("Strangr," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use https://strangr.club and our related services (the "Service").
1. Information we collect
a. Information you provide
- Profile information — optional display nickname, age range, languages, interests, gender option, and an optional voice bio (up to 15 seconds of audio).
- Reports — when you report another user, we store your account ID, the reported user ID, the reason, and any free-text you add.
- Voice direct messages — short audio clips you send to friends are stored on our servers for delivery and playback.
- Communications with us — if you email agitatedchebyshev5@freethecookies.com, we keep the message and our reply.
b. Information we collect automatically
- Anonymous account identifier — a random UUID generated for your device so we can give you a friend list and apply bans.
- Approximate location — derived from your IP address (country, region, and city only) for matching and to comply with local law. We do not store your precise GPS coordinates unless you opt in.
- Device and usage data — IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, timestamps, and basic crash data.
- Cookies and similar technologies — see Section 5.
c. Information we do NOT collect
- We do not record the audio of live one-on-one or group voice calls. Live calls travel peer-to-peer (WebRTC) between participants and are not stored.
- We do not require your real name, email address, or phone number.
- We do not collect financial or payment information (the Service is free).
2. How we use information
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
- Match users for conversations based on language, interests, and approximate location.
- Enforce our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, including investigating reports and applying bans.
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security, and technical issues.
- Comply with legal obligations.
- If we ever enable advertising (see Section 6), to show relevant ads.
3. Legal bases for processing (EEA / UK users)
- Performance of a contract — to provide the Service you requested.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the Service safe, prevent abuse, and improve quality.
- Consent — for any optional features that require it (e.g. enabling captions/translation, using location, accepting non-essential cookies).
- Legal obligation — when we must process data to comply with law.
4. How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We share data only with:
- Service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Supabase (database, authentication, file storage)
- ipapi.co (IP-based geolocation)
- LibreTranslate and MyMemory (optional caption translation; only the text you choose to translate is sent)
- Open Relay TURN (WebRTC fallback relay when peer-to-peer fails; transports audio but does not record it)
- If enabled: Google AdSense and Google's advertising partners
- Other users — your display nickname, voice bio (if set), approximate city/country, and interests are visible to people you talk to or who you befriend.
- Legal requests — we may disclose information when required by law, subpoena, or to protect rights, property, or safety.
- Business transfers — if Strangr is acquired or merged, data may transfer to the successor entity under this Policy.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for essential functionality (such as keeping you signed in to your anonymous session) and, where applicable, for analytics and advertising. Specifically:
- Strictly necessary cookies — required to operate the Service (e.g. authentication session). These cannot be disabled.
- Functional cookies — remember your preferences (language, captions setting).
- Analytics cookies — help us understand how the Service is used in aggregate. None are currently active by default.
- Advertising cookies — if we enable Google AdSense or similar, those services may set cookies (e.g.
__gads,NID,IDE) to show ads and measure performance. Read Google's policy on advertising technologies for details.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling strictly necessary cookies will break the Service.
6. Advertising (Google AdSense and partners)
We may use Google AdSense and other third-party vendors to serve advertisements when you visit the Service. These providers may use cookies (including the DoubleClick DART cookie) and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our Service or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visits across the internet.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting:
7. Data retention

- Voice DMs and voice bios are retained until you delete them, your account is removed, or 12 months pass without activity.
- Reports are retained for up to 24 months to enforce bans and refine moderation.
- Aggregated, de-identified data may be retained indefinitely.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Port your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time.

9. Children's privacy
The Service is restricted to users aged 18 and older. It is not directed at and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. 10. International data transfers
Our service providers may process information in countries outside your own. We rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) where required by law.
11. Security
We use TLS in transit, row-level security in our database, and short-lived signed URLs for stored audio. No system is perfectly secure; we encourage you to use strong passwords (where applicable) and to report suspected breaches to agitatedchebyshev5@freethecookies.com.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be highlighted on the Service or notified via the app. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
